Leg material. Plastic legs are fine; rubberwood is better; felt pads under either save your floor. Avoid anything with bare metal feet on hardwood.
The storage depth. Lid says 37 L; the internal frame usually eats 5-8 L of that. If you're shopping to hide bulk (duvets, double-king bedding), aim for 50 L+ stated.
Width vs walkway. Measure the gap between sofa and rug, subtract 20 cm for shins, that's your max footstool width. UK living rooms aren't generous.
The verdict
If you're in a small flat and want one piece pulling four jobs — footrest, spare seat, storage, side perch — the round woven ottoman at £37.74 is the obvious one. Solid weave, useful storage, tucks half under a sofa, and the price puts it in throw-it-in-the-trolley territory.
Splurge if you've got the budget and the brief is "this room should look intentional": the half-circle in grey velvet is the only one of the five that earns a second glance from people who don't usually notice furniture. And if you're moving flats again next year, the foldable cube at £22.87 is the one that packs down small and won't break your heart on the way out.
